Repair work on a damaged, underground Verizon phone cable causing outages to 185 lines in Ellicott City will continue into Thursday, the company said.
The cable was broken in two places at U.S. 40 and North Ridge Road Tuesday by a state contractor putting in a new guard rail, Verizon said. The phone company incorrectly identified the contractor as Miss Utility in a Tuesday release; the contractor was UtiliQuest, Verizon said Wednesday.
It is unclear when the service will be fully restored. Verizon workers excavated, enlarged and shored up the pit Wednesday, and they will work through Thursday to install the needed 20 feet of new cable, the company said.
