Police said Samuel Lancelotta and his wife Beth Lancelotta, both 48, were found in the backyard of their home in Ellicott City about 10:40 p.m. after one of their teenage sons called 911 to report a shooting.

An Ellicott City man allegedly killed his wife and then himself in a "domestic murder-suicide" outside their home late Monday night, Howard County Police said Tuesday.

Police said Samuel Lancelotta and his wife, Beth Lancelotta, both 48, were found in the back yard of their home in the 4600 block of Sheppard Lane about 10:40 p.m. after one of their teenage sons called 911 to report a shooting.

Sherry Llewellyn, a police spokeswoman, said detectives did not have a motive in the killing as of Tuesday. A handgun was recovered from the scene, she said.

The son and the couple's two other teenage children were inside the home at the time, police said. No other injuries were reported, and there "are no indications that anyone else was involved in the incident," police said.

The couple's children are staying with a family member, Llewellyn said. Family members either declined to comment or could not be reached on Tuesday.

Shawn Frederick, a family friend who spoke on their behalf, said they "thank friends and family for their support" and "wish for privacy at this difficult time."
