A Honda Civic traveling west on Route 99 attempted to make a left turn onto Route 29 south and struck a Toyota Tacoma pick-up truck traveling east on Route 99, according to police. A preliminary investigation indicated the Honda failed to yield right of way to the Toyota, police said.

The driver and sole-occupant of the Honda, Maryann Lofft Judge, 71, of Windsor Mill, was pronounced dead at Howard County General Hospital, police said. Benjamin Olabamidele Akintan, 45, of Ellicott City, who drove the Toyota, was being treated for non-life-threatening injuries at the Howard hospital. The Toyota had no other occupants.

The intersection remained closed while police investigate.
