Driver injured in crash with train in Ellicott City

A vehicle stuck on a train track in Ellicott City was struck by a train early Saturday, leaving a man injured, Howard County fire officials said.

The vehicle was stuck at a set of tracks at Old Frederick Road, near the Howard and Baltimore County border, around 4:30 a.m., said Adam Nolder, a fire department spokesman. He did not know why the vehicle was stuck.

The train, which was carrying coal, did not derail, he said. The driver was taken to the Maryland Shock Trauma Center for serious but non life-threatening injuries, he said. No other injuries were reported.

Howard County police and CSX officials are investigating.
