Defibrillator refresher course

A refresher course on how to use an Automated External Defibrillator (AED) will be held from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 26, and 7 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 28, at Oseh Shalom, 7515 Olive Branch Way in Laurel. CPR classes are also available. Cost is $36 per person, $30 for those 60 and older. Participants must be at least 14. Information: 301-498-5151.

Art exhibit

"Living in the Human Soup, paintings and drawings by Mia Halton, will be on view March 8 through June 2 at Tai Sophia Institute's Himmelfarb Gallery, 7750 Montpelier Road in Laurel. A reception will be held from 5 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. March 14. Gallery hours are 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. Mondays-Thursdays; 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Fridays and 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturdays. Laurel exhibit

"True Life: I'm a Laurel Mill Worker" is on view at the Laurel Museum, 817 Main St. The exhibit explores a different side of Laurel's history as a mill town and the community's early growth. Using an 1870s family to tell the story, it introduces visitors to the lives and experiences of the hundreds of men, women and children who worked in the town's cotton mills between the 1830s and 1929.  The exhibit includes artifacts, diaries, photos and a re-created millworker's home. Admission is free. Hours are 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. Sundays, 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Wednesdays and Fridays.
