Knitting, crocheting

A community knitting and crocheting group seeks volunteers 55 and older to knit afghans, blankets, baby wear and other items for local charities, hospitals and senior centers. Open house

The ShowTime Singers will have an open house from 7:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 23, at the Linwood Center Community Room, 3421 Martha Bush Drive. The nonprofit, which features 40-plus voices in four-part harmony, has been performing at retirement communities, assisted living facilities, nursing homes, Veterans Administration hospitals and special events in the Baltimore-Washington area since 2003. Ministry workshop

Country breakfast

The Kiwanis Club of Ellicott City hosts its fall country breakfast from 8 a.m. to 11 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 8, at Bethany United Methodist Church, 2875 Bethany Lane. The menu includes all-you-can-eat pancakes, sausage, gravy, biscuits and beverages. Proceeds support youth activities in the county, scholarships and donations to community services organizations. English conversation
