Art exhibit

Works by local painter Alison Menke will be on view through Oct. 19 at Still Life Gallery Fine Art and Custom Framing, 8173 Main St. A wine and cheese reception will be held from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 17. Art exhibition

The Howard County Arts Council's fifth annual "Paint It! Ellicott City" exhibition showcasing works created by juried artists during a three-day plein-air paint-out is on view through Friday, Aug. 22, at 8510 High Ridge Road. Outdoor movies

Baseball tryouts

The HCYP Raiders will hold tryouts for its 10U travel baseball teams from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 24, on Field 3 at Kiwanis-Wallis Park, 3300 Norbert's Way. Soccer registration

The co-ed Elkridge Youth Organization fall soccer program is accepting registrations for ages 4-18. No tryouts are required, and all players receive substantial playing time.
