Plant sale
Whipps Garden Cemetery will hold its annual plant sale Friday and Saturday, May 9-10, at First Lutheran Church, 3604 Chatham Road in Ellicott City. Call to artists
The Howard County Arts Council is accepting applications for the juried portion of "Paint It! Ellicott City 2014," a plein air paint-out and exhibit in Ellicott City. A minimum of $5,000 in awards will be presented to participating artists. The event will be held July 11-14. For a prospectus and entry form, go to hocoarts.org/exhibits.php. The application deadline is Wednesday, April 30.
English conversation
The Miller branch of the Howard County Public Library, 9421 Frederick Road, offers "Let's Get Together: English Conversation Club," a chance for those for whom English is a second language to practice speaking and understanding English in a group setting.
