Band fundraiser
The Mount Hebron High School Marching Unit will hold its inaugural fundraising event, "Band A Thon," from 3 p.m. to 8 p.m. Friday, April 25, at the school, 9440 Route 99. The event is free; donations will help support the 225-member marching band. Information: 410-480-2249 or email mthmu@gmail.com.
Benefit breakfast
Bethany United Methodist Church will host a pancake breakfast and flea market to raise money to support its Imagine No Malaria campaign from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, April 26, at 2875 Bethany Lane. Breakfast will be served from 8 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. and will include pancakes, sausage, fruit cocktail, hot apples, orange and apple juice, coffee and milk. Spring music
The St. Louis Church Concert Series presents "Spring at St. Louis," featuring violinist Shannon Lock, winner of the 2013-14 Concerto Competition at 4 p.m. Sunday, April 27, at 12500 Clarksville Pike in Clarksville. Admission is free. Information: 410-531-6040.
Plant, bake sale
The Cross Country Garden Club will hold a plant and bake sale from 8:30 a.m. to noon Saturday, May 3, at 9041 Chevrolet Drive in Ellicott City. Annuals, perennials, hanging baskets and homemade baked goods will be for sale. Information: 410-992-7680.
Call to artists
The Howard County Arts Council is accepting applications for the juried portion of "Paint It! Ellicott City 2014," a plein air paint-out and exhibit in Ellicott City. A minimum of $5,000 in awards will be presented to participating artists. The event will be held July 11-14. For a prospectus and entry form, go to hocoarts.org/exhibits.php. English conversation
The Miller branch of the Howard County Public Library, 9421 Frederick Road, offers "Let's Get Together: English Conversation Club," a chance for those for whom English is a second language to practice speaking and understanding English in a group setting.
