The Howard County Genealogical Society offers a free help desk at 1 p.m. Saturday, April 19, at the Howard County Library's Miller branch, 9421 Frederick Road. Research help is available. Information: 410-480-3250.
Call to artists
The Howard County Arts Council is accepting applications for the juried portion of "Paint It! Ellicott City 2014," a plein air paint-out and exhibit in Ellicott City. A minimum of $5,000 in awards will be presented to participating artists. The event will be held July 11-14. For a prospectus and entry form, go to hocoarts.org/exhibits.php. The application deadline is April 30.
