Festival The Orthodox Church of St. Matthew hosts its sixth annual Multi-Cultural Festival beginning at 11:30 a.m. at 7271 Eden Brook Drive in Columbia. Event features live entertainment by the region's most popular ethnic musicians and dancers. 'Success in Aging' A wellness seminar sponsored by the Office on Aging will take place from 6 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. at the Ellicott City Senior Center, 9401 Frederick Road. Program is a candid look at how older adults define success as individuals, as members of society and the value success has on aging with quality and self-esteem. "Dig Up Your Ancestors Online" The Howard County Genealogical Society's holds its monthly meeting at 7:30 p.m. at Ellicott City Senior Center, 9401 Frederick Road. Film screening In observance of Mental Illness Awareness Week, the Howard County chapter of the National Alliance on Mental Illness presents a screening of "Here One Day" at 6:30 p.m. at Howard County General Hospital, 10710 Charter Drive, Suite 110 in Columbia. Film is a candid film about a woman coping with mental illness, her relationships with her family, and the ripple effects of her suicide on those she loved. Bras for a Cause In honor of Breast Cancer Awareness Month, the Maryland chapter of the Council of Residential Specialists will hold a gala at 7 p.m. at The Gathering Place, 6120 Day Long Lane in Clarksville. Event includes dinner, open bar, music and a model runway show followed by an auctioning of the many donated custom-made bras. In addition, a Silent Auction is planned and raffle tickets for a Nissan Altima can be purchased for $50. Gala tickets are $50 per person. Information: 410-615-1205.

Beekeeping seminar The Howard County Beekeepers Association offers a one-day seminar beginning at 10 a.m. at the Robinson Nature Center, 6692 Cedar Lane in Columbia. Participants can learn basic facts about honey bees, plant pollination, and the fundamentals of beekeeping. Topics include honey bee biology, benefits of keeping bees, obtaining and installing your bees, getting and setting up your beekeeping equipment, inspecting your bees and products of the hive. Festival Alberta Gary United Methodist Church hosts its annual Apple Butter Festival and Yard Sale beginning at 8 a.m. at 9405 Guilford Road in Columbia. Visitors can watch apple butter being made and various apple-related items will be for sale. Lunch available. Information: 301-725-6307.


Concert Choirs from five area churches and the Columbia Brass Quintet will join together for a concert benefiting the American Cancer Society at 3 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 27 at Bethany United Methodist Church, 2875 Bethany Lane in Ellicott City.
