'Power Foods for the Brain' A lecture with Dr. Neal Barnard will be held at 7 p.m. at Howard County Library's Miller branch, 9421 Frederick Road in Ellicott City. Barnard will discuss nutrition's effects on the brain and the diet changes that shield the brain from memory loss, stroke, and Alzheimer's Disease. Dr. Barnard is a nutrition researcher and adjunct associate professor of medicine at George Washington University School of Medicine, and president of the Physicians Committee for Responsible Medicine. Outdoor program The Howard County Conservancy invites families to bring a picnic dinner to its annual Fiddlers and Fireflies program being held from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. at 10520 Old Frederick Road in Woodstock. Managing rainwater runoff Seminar sponsored by the Howard County Watershed Stewards Academy will be held beginning at 7 p.m. at Kings Contrivance Community Association-Amherst House, 7251 Eden Brook Drive in Columbia. Future
Concert The Maryland All State Community Band will perform its first ever concert at 2 p.m. July 21 at River Hill High School, 12101 Route 108 in Clarksville. Band is under the direction of Harlan Parker of the Peabody Conservatory and will perform "Evokatah" by Mike Mogensen, "La Quintessenze" by Johan de Meij, "October" by Eric Whitacre, "Children's March" by Percy Grainger, and more. After audition, musicians from 16 Maryland Community Bands were chosen as members of the ensemble. Admission is free. Information: 301-793-0209.
