Wine tasting The 22nd annual Wine in the Woods will be held at Symphony Woods, 5950 Symphony Woods Road in Columbia. In addition to sampling wine from more than 30 wineries, festival-goers can taste food from area restaurants and hear live music all day long. Information: 410-313-4700.


Culture Fest The Columbia Association and the Howard County Library will host the North Africa and Middle East Culture Fest from 1:30 to 4:30 p.m. at Howard County Library's Miller branch, 9421 Frederick Road in Ellicott City. The event is free and open to the public and will offer snacks and refreshments from select North African and Middle Eastern countries.

Fundraiser The 27th annual Greater Howard County CROP Hunger Walk will be held, with registration beginning at 1 p.m. and opening ceremonies at 1:30 p.m. The walk of less than three miles begins and ends at the Oakland Mills Interfaith Center, 5885 Robert Oliver Place in Columbia. The walk follows trails and pathways near Lake Kittamaqundi. For more than 40 years, Communities Responding to Overcome Poverty walks have been occurring across the U.S. for the purpose of putting an end to global hunger. Spring concert The Showtime Singers, a mixed-voice choral group, will perform its annual spring show at 2 p.m. at the Ellicott City Senior Center, 9401 Frederick Road. 'Ragtime' theater The Howard County Arts Collective presents the Tony Award-winning musical "Ragtime" at 3 p.m. at Howard Community College's Smith Theatre, 10901 Little Patuxent Parkway. Talking youth Voices for Change, an organization for students in eighth through 12th grades that focuses on issues affecting Howard County youth, will meet from 5 to 7 p.m. at the Recreation and Parks office, 7120 Oakland Mills Road. Living planet Living Places, Living Planet, a program with the Maryland Zoo and Baltimore's ZOOmobile, will be held at 10:30 a.m. at the East Columbia Library, 6600 Cradlerock Way. Learn about what living things need to survive and the global resources that animals and humans must share. Contact with animals may occur. Wine tasting The Howard County Conservancy holds its eighth annual "Wine in the Garden" event from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. Thursday, May 29, at 10520 Old Frederick Road in Woodstock. Visitors can walk through the garden tasting wine and craft beer, sample food from local restaurants, listen to bluegrass music and browse a large silent auction with artwork, getaways and more.
