School news The Board of Education holds a regularly scheduled meeting at 4 p.m. in the board room at 10910 Clarksville Pike in Ellicott City. Both the afternoon session and an evening session, which convenes at 7:30 p.m., begins with a public forum, when members of the public may address the board on any topic other than those for which a formal public hearing process exists. Bird club meeting During the monthly meeting of the Howard County Bird Club, U.S. Department of Agriculture biologist Jonathan Leden presents, "Protecting Birds and Airplanes Around Local Airports" at 8 p.m. at the Robinson Nature Center, 6692 Cedar Lane in Columbia. Information: howardbirds.org.


Concert The Columbia Concert Band celebrates its 30th anniversary with a concert featuring saxophonist James Houlik, at 3 p.m. May 12 at River Hill High School, 12101 Route 108 in Clarksville. Classical music The Unitarian Universalist Chalice Concert Series concludes its 2013 season with a performance featuring the students of the Peabody Conservatory of Music Preparatory Department at 8 p.m. May 18 at the Owen Brown Interfaith Center, 7246 Cradlerock Way in Columbia. A reception follows the concert. Tickets are $20; $15 for students 15-23; free for children younger than 15 when accompanied by a paying adult. Anniversary concert "Ruby Jubilee," the finale of the Candlelight Concert Society's 40th Anniversary Season will take place at 3 p.m. May 18 at Howard Community College, 10901 Little Patuxent Parkway in Columbia. Program features performances by the Beijing Guitar Duo, Dahlia Flute Duo, and the Park Family Trio. Concert concludes with Christopher Shih, Nurit Bar-Josef and Amit Peled performing Dvorak's piano trio, "Dumky." A cocktail reception will be held following the performances. 'The Full Monty' Silhouette Stages presents the story of six unemployed steel workers who decide to create their own Chippendales act when they see how much money their working wives and girlfriends pay to see male strippers at a local club.
