Awards ceremony The Department of Fire and Rescue Services will hold its annual awards ceremony at 7 p.m. at Bridgeway Community Church, 9189 Red Branch Road in Columbia. Several firefighters and paramedics will be honored for their roles in high profile incidents. Other highlights include the recognition of the "CPR Dance" and several other units whose outstanding work resulted in the saving of a life. Free and open to the public.

Asian heritage month Howard County General Hospital will host an Asian Pacific-American Heritage Month Celebration and Health Fair from noon to 4 p.m. at the North Laurel Community Center, 9411 Whiskey Bottom Road, Laurel. Sponsors include the Korean American Community Association, the Columbia Chinese Language School, the Howard County Chinese School, Howard County government, the Lorien Health System and the Asian American Health Care Center. 'Hope for Homeless' The Route 1 Day Resource Center, the Mid-Maryland Baptist Association and County Councilman Calvin Ball will host the Hope for the Homeless 5K run at Rockburn Park at 9 a.m. The run will be on a trail course with a low-impact surface.
