'Ragtime' theater

The Howard County Arts Collective presents the Tony Award-winning musical "Ragtime" through Sunday, May 18, at Howard Community College's Smith Theatre, 10901 Little Patuxent Parkway. Shows are at 8 p.m. Thursdays through Saturdays and at 3 p.m. Sundays. Tickets are $15; $12 for members of the military and seniors 60 and older; $10 for students with ID. Oakland Mills Village Center sponsors an evening of bingo from 7 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. Thursday, May 15, at The Other Barn, 5851 Robert Oliver Place. Bingo cards will be five for $1. Silhouette Stages presents the Tony Award-nominated play "Curtains" May 16-25 at Slayton House, 10400 Cross Fox Lane. Driving safely

An AARP Driver Safety Course will be held at 10 a.m. Monday, May 19, at the Bain Center, 5470 Ruth Keeton Way. The program will review current rules of the road, defensive-driving techniques, and how to operate a vehicle more safely. The Inter-Village Co-Rec Softball League seeks players 19 and older, especially couples and women, from all villages in Columbia. The league is slow-pitch, noncompetitive softball played Sunday afternoons at Wilde Lake Middle School fields from early May to August. Athletic skill is not required; The goal is to have fun in a relaxing social setting. Everyone plays. A league picnic and awards program will conclude the season.
