St. Clair to replace Anne Towne at Howard nonprofit group

Duane St. Clair, a social worker who helped develop senior centers throughout Howard County, will replace the retiring Anne Towne as executive director of the Association of Community Services on July 5.

Created in the mid-1960s to serve as an umbrella group for Howard's nonprofits, ACS has grown to include more than 100 member groups, and also sponsors forums and discussions with local elected officials and other community leaders.

St. Clair, a Columbia resident, "brings to ACS not only exemplary experience in the public and private sectors at the local, regional and national levels, but also a long-term and proven commitment to human service issues and the Howard County community," said ACS President Harry Schwarz, who announced the choice.

St. Clair spent 26 years working for the Howard County Office of Aging, is a trained social worker and a foster parent. "With the wealth of community resources that we have in Howard County, I look forward to identifying new opportunities to facilitate and advance the work of our human services community," he said in a prepared statement.
