An emergency construction project to stabilize a wall on Court Avenue in Ellicott City has begun, according to Howard County officials.
The wall, located on private property, has become a hazard and the county has obtained permission from the property owner to stabilize it, according to Raj Kudchadkar, director of special projects for the Department of Planning and Zoning.
Jersey barriers have been placed around the crumbling wall, blocking a portion of the sidewalk on Court Avenue leading to Main Street, which will be closed off for the project.
Kudchadkar said the county is looking into building a replacement for the current wall.
Weather permitting, the work to stabilize the wall is expected to be completed by late March. Construction on a replacement could last into April, Kudchadkar said.
The county Department of Public Works is drafting a pedestrian plan to manage pedestrian traffic for the duration of the project. The school bus stop on the corner of Court Avenue and Main Street will not be impacted by the project.
