The 258-unit apartment complex proposed for the Mt. Soma Farm property on Route 1 at Old Joppa Road met with community opposition. The main concern expressed was traffic safety because of the risk of an increase in the number of vehicles on the road.
The Humane Society sought approval for a new 16,000-square-foot facility to replace its building on Connolly Road in Fallston that is more than 60 years old. The plan includes a large parking lot in front of the new building.

The Harford County Board of Education voted in favor of a budget for the 2013-14 school year. The budget includes a $50 per sports season fee to participate in interscholastic sports, a $25 fee per extracurricular activity, eliminating 115 teaching and other staff positions, removing a $7.7 million package of employee salary increases and changing bus routes.
The Army Ordnance Museum, which originally opened in 1924, was closed and would not reopen. Many of the vehicles and other artifacts stored at the APG facility were moved to Virginia. Budget cuts made the decision to close the museum necessary.
State Senator Nancy Jacobs, a Republican representing Harford and Cecil counties, announced that she will not seek re-election. Jacobs, who served in Annapolis for 20 years, cited "personal reasons" for her departure from the Senate.
Aberdeen High School will be the next Harford County public high school to get an artificial turf field for its football stadium. A $990,425 contract to install the field was approved by the Harford County Board of Estimates. The installation would get underway this summer and was expected to be completed some time in mid-October.
The landmark Anderson Hardware & Storage store on Route 40 in Joppa was destroyed by a fire. The three alarm blaze caused an estimated $1 million damage.

Wheel Road between Cedar Lane and Glenangus Drive would be closed for five to six months. The road construction would consist of realignment to reduce hazards, installation of storm drain pipe and construction of retaining walls.

A deer was responsible for an Aberdeen man's death on the Bel Air Bypass. Robert Kleinhen, was riding his 2007 Vespa scooter north on the Bel Air Bypass when a deer ran in front of him. Kleinhen's scooter overturned and collided with the median. The accident happened on Route 1 just prior to the entrance ramp to Route 24 and north of where Route 1 crosses over Tollgate Road. The victim was flown to the Maryland Shock Trauma Center in Baltimore where he was pronounced dead.
The Harford County Board of Education is considering plans to include funding to replace Youth's Benefit Elementary School in Fallston for the 2015 fiscal year. In addition, another $9 million would be spent replacing the HVAC system at Fallston High School.
The Maryland General Assembly approved an increase in the gasoline tax. Phase one of the plan would see a 4 cent per gallon increase at the pump.
The Thomas J. Hatem Memorial Bridge carrying Route 40 across the Susquehanna River and the Tydings Bridge carrying I-95 across the river farther north between Harford and Cecil Counties increased tolls $2 to $8 starting July 1. People with an E-Zpass standard plan will be charged $7.20 at both bridges, and AVI sticker program for commuters at the Hatem officially ended – requiring all commuters to use a special E-Zpass.
