Ian Ziemski of Bel Air, a graduate of C. Milton Wright High School who plays lacrosse for SUNY Maritime, has been named to the Skyline Conference spring All-Sportsmanship Team.
Ziemski, a freshman on the men's lacrosse team, joins teammate Nick Pellegrino, who won the honor last year, as well as Andrew Scalesi, who picked up the honor in 2014 when he was a senior. They are the conference's only three men's lacrosse players to earn the award, according to a news release from the SUNY Athletic Department.
This is the third year the Skyline Conference has announced All-Sportsmanship teams.
A total of 42 student-athletes were selected to Skyline Conference All-Sportsmanship Teams in the spring 2016 season, as announced recently by the conference office.
In total, 156 student-athletes were recognized on all-sportsmanship teams in 11 sports in the 2015-16 academic year.
All the SUNY Maritime All-Sportsmanship selections are eligible for the 2015-16 Male and Female Sporting Awards given to one male and one female student-athlete for the entire Skyline Conference, as chosen by conference athletic directors
Ziemski appeared in 11 games for Maritime during his first season with the team this year, making his collegiate debut in the team's first win of the year against Norwich, according to the SUNY Maritime Athletic Department.
He picked up the first two points of his career with a goal and an assist while also picking up a pair of ground balls against Maine Maritime, recorded two shots against SUNY Polytechnic, scored a goal in the team's Skyline Conference opener against Kean, tallied another goal in his next appearance against Merchant Marine, picked up two more points with a goal and an assist on two shots in the team's league win over Mount St. Mary's, added two ground balls and forced two turnovers against Farmingdale, tallied an assist against Mount St. Vincent and scored a goal while also forcing one turnover and picking up a ground ball in the season finale against Montclair State.
Ziemski was a three-year member of the Mustangs lacrosse team, was a team captain as a senior and also ran three seasons of cross country, serving as a team captain his senior season. He played club lacrosse for Monster LAX as well as Legacy Lacrosse.
He is studying naval architecture at Maritime and plans to earn his U.S. Coast Guard Engine License.
