Harford County has just one unbeaten football team after Friday night's Week Five action. Bel Air improved to 5-0 with a non-league victory over visiting Friendly, 27-18.
Havre de Grace, the other unbeaten, was dealt its first loss, losing at rival Aberdeen, 30-10, in UCBAC Chesapeake Division play.
In Bel Air's win, senior Daniel Webber was the main force, rushing for three touchdowns, including a jaunt that covered 83 yards.
Aberdeen rolls
In Aberdeen, Eagles senior quarterback Stephen Blackwell threw two touchdowns and ran for another to lead the Eagles (2-0, 3-2) past the Warriors (1-1, 4-2).
Blackwell's teammate, junior running back Joshua Maxwell, put Aberdeen on the scoreboard late in the first quarter. Maxwell (14 carries, 143 yards) ran eight yards for the score, but the point-after-kick failed wide left.
Blackwell, who finished with 154 yards passing and 88 more rushing, set up the next Aberdeen score with a pass to TreJaun Malloy, covering 20 yards. Blackwell took the next snap and raced untouched, 13 yards for the score with 10:56 to play in the first half.
Blackwell threw to Elijah Johnson for the two-point conversion and a 14-0 lead.
Havre de Grace responded with all 10 of its points in the span of a minute and six seconds. Kicker Clay Harris provided the first three with a 35-yard field goal.
Kenny Sumpter's interception on the Eagles next snap set the Warriors up in good field position. Two personal foul penalties against Aberdeen put the Warriors first and goal at the Eagles two.
Two sneaks later and Warriors quarterback Mike Flosser was in the end zone. Harris added the point-after-kick and the Warriors were right back in the game, trailing, 14-10, with 4:15 left in the half.
So the Warriors thought.
Blackwell threw a bubble pass to TreJaun Malloy on first down and Malloy outran the Havre de Grace defense for a 75-yard touchdown. Malloy then caught the two-point pass from Blackwell and the Aberdeen lead was 22-10.
Havre de Grace looked to be back in business after an Evan Gainey fumble recovery at the Eagles 27, but on fourth and 15, Flosser's pass was tipped and picked off by Anthony Keinon.
It was Blackwell's longest run, 47 yards worth, that set up the Eagles final score. Blackwell ran straight up the middle on third and one to the Warriors 15. The next play, Antwan Evans was in the end zone all alone and Blackwell found him for the 15-yard score. Blackwell added the conversion by run to end the scoring with 38.2 seconds left in the third quarter.
