Harford runners fare well in Baltimore Running Festival

Janet McAdorey presented another strong performance in the Baltimore Running Festival Saturday.

Competing in the 5K, the 57-year-old Bel Air resident led the 55-59 age group for the second time, outrunning 193 other women in the age group. Her time of 23:32 was fast enough to place her eighth among 1,138 women in the masters (over 40) category.

McAdorey has been on a roll since advancing into the 55-59 age group. In the last two years, she has won her age group 13 times in 5K races, mostly in Maryland but also in California, South Carolina, Virginia and Connecticut.

On Saturday, she was one of four runners from Harford County to capture age-group wins in the festival, which drew an announced 24,000 participants.

Randy Doak took first place in 30-34 and fourth overall among 8,014 finishers in the half-marathon. The North Harford alum ran 1:17:59.

Sean Sharpe of Forest Hill was the men's masters winner in the half-marathon, placing 11th in 1:21:02. He finished 30 seconds ahead of the closest of the 1,381 masters men behind him.

J. Tobin of Fallston took first among men over 70 in the half-marathon. Timed in 1:59:57, he finished a mile ahead of the runner-up in the age group.

Four others finished in the top 10 of their age groups in the 13.1-mile event. Stephen Tauber of Bel Air was ninth in 50-54 in 1:38:59, paced by daughter Elisabeth Tauber, who placed 10th in 20-24 in 1:38:58. Nadine Bowen of Fallston finished ninth in 50-54 in 1:50:11, and Esther Buchser of Abingdon, sixth in 65-69 in 2:31:16.

Marathon

David Stevenson of Abingdon was the top Harford finisher in the marathon, covering the 26.2 miles in 3:14:37. He was fifth in 40-44 and 78th among all 2,353 finishers.

Finishing in the top 100 were Nick Tutino of Bel Air, 89th in 3:16:04; Joel Baker of Fallston, 97th in 3:17:39 and 10th in 40-44; and Jared DeCoste, Bel Air, 98th in 3:18:18. Maurizio Illiano of Fallston finished 103rd overall and was eighth in 45-49 in 3:19:21. Tom Engram of Bel Air placed sixth in 50-54 in 3:26:53.

Mercedes Pinkney of Edgewood led Harford women in the marathon, placing ninth in the 35-39 age group in 3:39:14. She finished 53rd among all 983 women.

Holly Battaglia of Bel Air took seventh place among 130 women in 40-44 in 3:47:58 and 96th overall. Stacy Ward of Bel Air was 168th among the women in 3:59:39.

Two Harford wheelchair athletes were among the top finishers in the handcrank chair division of the marathon. Malcolm Whyte of Jarrettsville placed second in 1:51:50, and Jerry Sersen of Joppa, fourth in 2:02:29.

Among the 4,150 finishers in the 5K run, Jake Hannas of Aberdeen placed second in 15-19 in 18:13. Ashton Tolson of Bel Air was fifth in under-15 in 19:22.
