IronBirds rack up 16 hits, nine runs in lopsided win over Brooklyn

It was all Aberdeen in Tuesday night's series finale with Brooklyn at Leidos Field at Ripken Stadium.

The IronBirds (23-18) pounded Cyclones pitching for 16 hits and nine runs en route to the 9-1 New York Penn League win.

The 'Birds are headed for Staten Island to begin a three-game set tonight (Wednesday). A sweep will put the IronBirds in a first place tie with the Yankees. The 'Birds are also just a game and a half out of the wild card spot.

In the lopsided win Tuesday, every hitter in the Aberdeen lineup had a hit, highlighted by six with multiple hits.

Jaylen Ferguson, taking over the leadoff role with Kirvin Moesquit getting a day off, led with three hits and two RBIs.

Adding two hits each were Trevor Craport, Luke Ringhofer, Garrett Copeland, Ryan Ripken and Irving Ortega. Also getting hits were Ben Breazeale, T.J. Nichting and Zach Jarrett.

The Ironbirds scored in seven of eight innings, including two runs each in innings six and seven. Brooklyn avoided the shutout with a run in the ninth inning.

Jimmy Murphy (1-1) picked up the win in relief. He pitched three scoreless innings, allowing four hits. He struck out two.

Starter Cameron Bishop was solid over four innings, giving up two hits and walk, while striking out six.

Zach Matson and James Teague also pitched an inning each.
