Aberdeen back in the loss column with 5-1 setback to Staten Island

The Aberdeen IronBirds looked to take a series from the Staten Island Yankees Thursday night, but the visitors were too much, taking the rubber game, 5-1, in a New York-Penn League matchup at Leidos Field at Ripken Stadium.

The IronBirds (22-30) were held in check at the plate, limited to just four hits, all singles. Staten Island, on the other hand, took advantage of numerous hit batters to plate all five runs.

Chris Godinez was hit by a pitch in the third and was one of two runs to score on Timmy Robinson's two-run triple. In the fourth, Jerry Seitz was hit and he, too, scored when Godinez drew a bases-loaded walk.

The Yankees added their final two runs in the ninth. Godinez and Nick Solak were both hit by pitches and both scored on Robinson's single.

Aberdeen's lone run scored in the fourth. Preston Palmeiro''s groundout plated Cole Billingsley, who had walked to begin the inning.

Austin Hays was on base all four at bats, going 2-for-2 and walking twice. Hays also stole his fourth base of the season. Jason Heinrich and Jerry McClanahan, who was the lone IronBird hit by pitch, had the other Aberdeen hits.

Starter Lucas Humpal (0-1) took the loss, pitching three innings and allowing four hits, a walk and two earned runs.
