Good fortunes continued for the Aberdeen IronBirds Friday night as the visiting 'Birds beat Batavia, 4-2, in New York-Penn League play.
The IronBirds (12-16) and Muckdogs (6-22) will close out the series Saturday at 7:05 p.m. Hunter Harvey, the Orioles 2013 first-round pick, is expected to make the start, continuing his rehab stint with the IronBirds.
This year's top pick, Cody Sedlock, made his second start for Aberdeen Friday. He pitched three innings, allowing three hits, a walk and an earned run. He struck out two.
Zach Muckenhirn (2-1) pitched three scoreless innings to get the win. He allowed two hits and struck out three. Max Knutson pitched two and a third innings, giving up the Muckdogs second run in the ninth inning. Knutson gave up a hit and a pair of walks, while striking out four. Daniel Ayers came on to record the final two outs, giving him his first save of the season.
Aberdeen scored all four of its runs in the third inning. A walk to Chris Clare opened the inning. Jerry McClanahan singled and Cole Billingsley put down a sacrifice bunt. Batavia pitcher Travis Neubeck threw the ball away, allowing Clare to score and leave runners at second and third.
Alejandro Juvier doubled in both runners and then scored the fourth run on Jaylen Ferguson's two-out single.
McClanahan and Ryan McKenna had two hits each to pace the IronBirds, who got hits from eight of nine batters in the lineup. J.J. Gould led Batavia at the plate, going 4-for-4.
