Aberdeen starts final homestand with win over Brooklyn

Playing the first of their five final games in the 2016 season, the Aberdeen IronBirds celebrated a win Thursday night at Leidos Field at Ripken Stadium.

Aberdeen (30-41) turned back the Brooklyn Cyclones, 5-4, in New York-Penn League McNamara Division play.

Austin Hays continued his assault at the plate, going 3-for-4 with a double and two runs scored. Hays is batting. 364. Alejandro Juvier was also 3-for-4, with two doubles and an RBI.

Preston Palmeiro was 2-for-4 with his first triple, a run scored and two RBIs.

Keegan Akin had a great start for the 'Birds, tossing three hitless innings and striking out four. Akin received some real defensive help as well. Rightfielder Cole Billingsley went to the wall and made a perfectly timed leap to take away a home run.

Aberdeen and Brookyln will be back at it Friday night. Game time is 7:05 p.m.
