Picking up where it left off in 2015, the Fallston golf team opened 2016 in winning fashion Wednesday as the high school fall sports season got off to a good start.
The Cougars shot a total of 215 to best neighbor North Harford, 230, and Cecil County opponent, Elkton, 249, in the tri-match played at Mountain Branch Golf Course.
Fallston's Everett Cox fired a nine-hole round of 39 to lead all scorers. Dayton Ogrysko shot 40 and Dylan Wolf, a 41, to back up Cox's low round. Josh Sacker added a 47 and Zach Barkhorn, a 48, to close out the Cougars scoring.
Jake Nemeth shot 42 to lead the North Harford efforts, while Curtis Jackson and Derek McManus each shot 43. Sarah Hendrickson, one of two girls in action, shot 49 for the Hawks and Zack Karcher finished with 53.
Genesis Diaz, the other female player, shot a nice round of 41 to pace Elkton. Alex Rosenthal added a 44 for the Golden Elks, while other scores were turned in by Nick Gregson, 50; Brady O'Neil, 56; and Cadan Hartten, 58.
Next Tuesday will be a busy as most, if not all, Harford County teams will be in action.
