Fallston girls close regular season with soccer win; playoffs set to begin

The Fallston girls soccer team closed out its regular season Monday, beating host Aberdeen, 4-0, in non-division play.

Fallston's goals were scored by Maria Gentile, Logan Ward, Taylor Dudley and Ashley Smith, with Alicyn Lose providing two assists. Maria Gentile and Sydney Crofton also had assists.

In goal, Izzie Newkirk made no saves and Emily Rhinehart notched two saves.

Huskies edge Hawks

Patterson Mill also closed out regular season play with a win, edging visiting Urbana, 4-3, in non-league action on Thursday,.

Urbana led the game, 2-1, at the half.

Patterson Mill goals were scored by Bethany Bruck, Marissa Lapinsky, Annie Wysong and Sommer Law. Assists were credited to Niani McDonald and Alexis Utain.

Patterson Mill goalie Marie Claire Cicenia finished with six saves.

Region playoffs

The playoff draws were held Monday and for some, play begins with section quarterfinal action this Friday. Teams that drew byes begin section semifinal play Nov. 1.

In Class 1A East, Section I, Joppatowne will play at Havre de Grace on Friday, with top seed Patterson Mill hosting the winner.

In 2A East, Section I, North Harford will visit Rising Sun on Friday, with defending 2A state champion Fallston awaiting the winner.

Harford Tech will host Elkton on Friday. The winner travels to North East.

In 3A North, Section II, all four local teams drew byes and will play Nov. 1. Defending 3A state champ, Bel Air, will host Aberdeen and in the other semi, Edgewood will visit C. Milton Wright.
