Kaley Thompson scored a pair of goals Wednesday night to lead Patterson Mill past host Fallston, 2-1, in UCBAC Chesapeake Division girls soccer play.
Thompson's first goal came with just 1:24 left in the first half, with the Huskies trailing. A feed from Annie Wysong allowed Thompson to beat Fallston goalie Izzy Newkirk in a one-on-one matchup.
Thompson scored the game-winner 1:40 into the second half unassisted. She knocked down a Fallston clearing pass and then headed toward the goal. Cougars goalie Newkirk came out of the goal and made an initial save, but the ball rebounded back off Thompson, toward the goal. Both Thompson and Newkirk scrambled for the ball and both hit the ground near the goal line, with Thompson forcing the ball into the net.
The Cougars nearly went on top just three minutes into the game, but Ashley Smith's shot caromed off the crossbar. Logan Ward, however, gave Fallston its 1-0 lead less than five minutes later.
Sydney Crofton's long throw-in was headed by Maria Gentile and eventually knocked in off the back of Ward.
Newkirk finished with seven saves for Fallston (0-2, 3-3), while MC Cicenia made six saves for Patterson Mill (3-0, 7-1). Cicenia's sixth and final save saved the win. Cicenia dove to her left to make the stop with just 1:50 left in the game.
The Cougars earned a corner kick, but the Huskies cleared the ball and faced no further threat.
