Spring sports season finally opens, but many still postponed

The term ‘Three’s a charm’ was never more evident than on Friday, the third day of the Spring high school sports season, when a number of Harford County boys and girls lacrosse teams saw their first game action after the two-day wait.

Unfortunately, though, a handful of lacrosse games were postponed, and as expected, all baseball and softball games were postponed.

Highlighting the play were wins for Edgewood, John Carroll and Havre de Grace boys lacrosse teams and for the John Carroll girls.

Edgewood’s win came on the road at Concordia Prep, where the Rams beat the Saints, 8-3.

Edgewood scoring was led by sophomore Theo Cook’s five-goal effort. Freshman Mason Putney, sophomore Humberto Briceno and sophomore Payton O'Mara added a single goal each. O'Mara also had two assists.

The Rams played two goalies with senior Duncan Barbes making six saves and freshman Dillon Newport making two.

John Carroll’s boys win came at home, an 8-1 win over C. Milton Wright. Stats were not provided.

Havre de Grace beat visiting Perryville, 13-1. Stats were not provided.

Patterson Mill lost at Towson, 17-4, in a game moved to Towson’s turf field because the Huskies natural grass field was not playable.

Nick Repke scored twice in the loss, while Connor Madsen (assist) and Blake Tallon each added a goal.

Chance Urban also had one assist. Huskies goalie Justin Strawderman made nine saves. The Huskies were down at the half, 11-2.

Girls lacrosse

John Carroll (2-0) opened its home schedule with an 13-7 win over Severn.

Molly Lynch and Lexi Burch led the scoring with three goals each, while Reilly Cisar had two goals and two assists.

Maddy Sterling also scored twice, while single goals were scored by Katie Hormes (three caused turnovers), Erin Scannell and Kaitlyn Sydnor (two assists).

Goalie Emily Sterling finished with six saves and two caused turnovers.

Patterson Mill lost at Towson, 12-6.

Goalie Faith Treptow had eight saves.

Postponed

Girls lacrosse games postponed with new dates and times (all P.M.) were Aberdeen at North Harford (4/16, 6:45); Harford Tech at Loch Raven (4/25, 6:30); Kenwood at Joppatowne (3/27, 3:30); and Patapsco at Edgewood (3/26, 3:30). Games postponed with no makeup date were Havre de Grace at Perryville and North East at Fallston.

Boys lacrosse games postponed with new dates and times (all P.M.) were Tech at Manchester Valley (4/16, 6:45); and Kenwood at Joppatowne (3/27, 5). Fallston was also postponed at Centennial.

Baseball games postponed have all been rescheduled with 3:30 p.m. starts. Games were Patterson Mill at C. Milton Wright (4/3); Perryville at Edgewood (4/3); Elkton at Tech (3/29); Havre de Grace at Joppatowne (3/28); North Harford at North East (4/26); and Bel Air at Rising Sun (4/3).

All but one softball game has a new date and all are p.m. starts. Games are Patterson Mill at Fallston (4/5, 3:30); Tech at Edgewood (4/13, 5); Perryville at CMW (4/16, 4:45); Havre de Grace at Aberdeen (4/5, 3:30); North Harford at North East (4/26, 3:30); and Bel Air at Rising Sun (4/3, 3:30).

Joppatowne at Elkton was also postponed.
