Two schools separated by a short distance met in Fountain Green Tuesday for a non-league field hockey game.
Host C. Milton Wright battled John Carroll and when play was done, it was the Mustangs that earned the 3-2 win. CMW led 2-0 at the half.
"The Mustangs played a great game coming off their big win over Manchester Valley and the Patriots came out a bit flat after sitting idle last week," John Carroll coach Alice Puckett said. "Strong midfield play by the Mustangs kept the Patriots off balance for most of the game."

Keels struck again 5:49 into the second half and that finally woke up the Patriots. John Carroll freshman Kate Gromacki erased the shutout on a penalty corner with assist from Charlotte Haggerty. Pressuring again, John Carroll's Alyssa Kraus converted on another penalty corner to cut the lead to one with four and a half minutes to play.
The Mustangs held tight defensively behind goalie Diana Borg (three saves) to seal the win. Borg also defended four corners. Patriots goalie Emma Gromacki had seven saves and she defended seven corners.
"It was a fast-paced game that came down to the wire," Puckett said.
