Patterson Mill's Paula Moon and Fallston's William Creery won District VII Individual Golf championships Tuesday at Geneva Farm Golf Club in Street.
Moon and her Patterson Mill teammates also qualified for the Class 1A-2A state tournament as did Creery and his Fallston teammates. The Cougars won the title, shooting 324, while the Huskies shot 339.
Two Harford County teams also qualified for the 3A-4A state tourney. C. Milton Wright shot 321 to lead all team scoring and North Harford shot 335. The low score also crowned CMW as the UCBAC Champions for 2017.
For Paula Moon, the title comes with an edge and bragging rights. Paula Moon, a sophomore, shot the low female score of 77, besting the next best finishing score of 84, shot by older sister, senior Audrey Moon of Aberdeen.
"I shot a 77, but there were times I had up and downs and I was a little bit rough," Paula Moon said. "I actually went into the woods three times and had to drop, but thankfully I bogeyed all three. I'm just really happy I got to be a District Champion as a sophomore and I think this will be a great experience for me for the future."
Joining Paula Moon from Patterson Mill are Michael Montgomery, 82; Samuel Sapp, 88; and Michael Jessup, 92.
Creery, a junior at Fallston, is a newcomer to the Maryland golf scene. Creery, who came to Fallston this year from Orange County, California, shot a one-under par round of 71 to win by two strokes.
"I did pretty good today, I felt a lot of pressure with my opponents. I did what I can, I just played my game out there and I think I shot pretty good," Creery said. "I did birdie some holes, bogeyed some, and I came back because I was going up and down, so I kept my head in the game."
Other Fallston players contributing to the Cougars 1A-2A win were Everett Cox, 77; Michael Corona, 86; and Zack Barkhorn, 90.
The Cougars may have had the best team score of all, but team member Josh Sacker was overcome by the heat and was forced to withdraw. He was taken by ambulance to the hospital, but was said to be feeling better before the event was over.
CMW's Talen Lurz took runner-up honors with a 73. North Harford's Jake Nemeth was third with a 75.
Joining Lurz from the winning CMW team were Alex Mattes, 80; Michael Cummings, 83; and Ethan Hauer, 85.
Joining Nemeth from North Harford were Derek McManus, 86; Sarah Hendrickson, 86; and Wyatt Biensach, 88.
The other golfers who qualified for next month's state tourney are Harford Tech's Adam Haviland, 76; Perryville's Matthew O'Neill, 77; and Audrey Moon (84) from Aberdeen.
Other 3A-4A team scores were Aberdeen, 348, and Bel Air, 374. Other 1A-2A team scores were Perryville, 342; Harford Tech, 359; Rising Sun, 383; and Bo Manor, 391.
