Haley Cummins dipped under the 19-minute mark and led her C. Milton Wright girls' team to victory in the Harford Invitational cross-country meet Tuesday on her home course.
Kieran McDermott led a 1-2-4 Bel Air finish in the boys' race, but it wasn't enough for a team win, as C. Milton Wright scored 47 points to nip Fallston by 2 and Bel Air by 3 for the boys' title.
In contrast, the girls' race wasn't close. The Mustangs won by 35 points, and Cummins by about 300 meters, completing a 3.05-mile course in 18:50. Rachel Goldsborough finished second in 19:58, leading Edgewood to third place. Rebekah Cross took third in 20:11, cinching a second-place finish for Bel Air.
The CMW girls squeezed all five scorers into the top 11 places. Lindsay Perry was fifth in 20:19; Kristen White, eighth in 21:36; Jordan Powers, ninth in 21:40; and Maura O'Neill, 11th in 21:45 for a low score of 34 points.
Others in the girls' top 10 were Nicole Hondrogiannis, Fallston, fourth in 20:15; Grace Wisniewski, Patterson Mill, sixth, 20:54; Shelby Johnson, Edgewood, seventh, 21:09; and Julianna Stevens, Fallston, 10th in 21:43.
CMW's top five in winning the boys' title were Brandon Cruz, fifth, 17:08; Adam Decillion, eighth, 17:27; Francis Roden, ninth, 17:36; James Miller, 12th, 17:41; and Greg Roden, 13th, 17:48.
Also finishing in the boys' top 10 were Nick Hammond, Bel Air, second in 16:53; Samuel Brosh, Patterson Mill, third, 16:56; Ethan Gray, Bel Air, fourth, 16:57; Saxon Brown, Fallston, sixth, 17:10; Giles Daly, Fallston, seventh, 17:11; and Nick Fabula, Fallston, 10th, 17:39.
Seven Harford teams competed in the meet. Shannon Dooley led the Harford Tech boys in 18:29 at 24th place, and Hannah Fitzpatrick, the Tech girls in 25th in 23:56.
The top finisher for the Havre de Grace boys was Casey Moore, 14th in 17:51 and for the girls, Katelynn Lyons, 42nd in 33:45. Ryan Burgess led the Edgewood boys at 22nd in 18:23.
Pirozzi 11th Gunpowder Invitational
John Carroll's Adria Pirozzi finished 11th among 161 runners in the varsity girls race of the Gunpowder Invitational cross-country meet at Jerusalem Mill Saturday. The Patriots placed 14th among 21 girls teams.
Alexander Kirkland led the John Carroll boys team, which placed 14th in a field of 29 teams. He ran 17:37 for 49th place.
