Fallston turns tables, bests Harford Tech, Aberdeen to win county golf championship

Fallston suffered a one-stroke loss to Harford Tech in the recent Upper Chesapeake Bay Athletic Conference golf championship. That gave the Cougars some extra motivation heading into Tuesday's Harford County Championship tournament.Fallston did better the second time around. The Cougars took the top spot in the competition at Geneva Farm Golf Course and beat Harford Tech – plus Aberdeen – by 13 strokes to win a second consecutive county title. They topped C. Hardin shot a one-over par 73; Moon shot an 86.The Cougars, who qualified as a team for next week's state tournament at the University of Maryland, got strong performances from their golfers and finished with a score of 502, ahead of Harford Tech (515) and Aberdeen (515), who tied for second place.C. Milton Wright (522) took fourth, followed by Patterson Mill (526), North Harford (534) and Bel Air (570). Edgewood and Joppatowne both were incomplete in team scores.Fallston coach Steve Mull said he was proud of how his team rebounded from the close loss to the Cobras in the UCBAC to come through in this tournament.&quot;We're very pleased with our performance this year,&quot; Mull said. &quot;The kids worked really, really hard after the loss at the UCBAC. We knew we had some stiff competition out here…they wanted to come back and win this thing for the second year in a row.&quot;They did just that. Everett Cox led Fallston with his four-over par 76 – he finished second behind Hardin (73) in the individual competition – followed by Dylan Wolf (77), Michael Corona (85), Josh Sacker (85), Zach Barkman (89) and Dayton Ogrysko (90).Individually, Hardin said his putting proved important en route to the one-over par 73 which won him that individual title. He finished with one birdie plus two eagles overall.&quot;It's pretty good,&quot; Hardin said. &quot;I was just trying to hit the ball well and play smart and not make any mistakes.&quot;He's now looking to do better at the state tournament. Hardin struggled in last year's tournament at College Park but said he's looking for more this time around.The Moon family played a big role on the girls' side. Audrey Moon won it with her score of 86 while sister Paula Moon of Patterson Mill took second place, six shots behind.Audrey Moon finished second last year, and much like Fallston, she now had some motivation coming into this competition.&quot;I made some putts, and I think I was pretty consistent,&quot; she said. &quot;I just wanted to play better this year.&quot;Fallston wrapped up a strong four-year period in the county and UCBAC with this championship. Mull was proud of how his three seniors, Wolf plus Dayton and Colby Ogrysko, have fared during their time with the Cougars.The coach said the group of seniors posted a 65-3-1 record in head-to-head matches plus two county and three District titles. They also won the UCBAC championship last year and took the aforementioned second-place finish this season.Now, the Cougars can focus on the state tournament. They finished third in the Class 1A-2A competition last fall.&quot;There's some really good competition out here,&quot; Mull said. &quot;I'm really happy for the seniors.
