The Fallston Cougars, after falling behind Wednesday in sets, 2-0, dealt visiting Bel Air its first loss in boys volleyball. The Cougars rallied with three straight wins for the 3-2 win.
Scores were 28-30, 21-25, 25-23, 25-22 and 15-12.
Clark Swatling had 29 assists and Treston Diaz had 11 kills and four blocks to pace the Cougars. Jared Richard had six kills and Ben Claffee added eight. Andy Dodd contributed five kills and five blocks.
The Cougars had a team-high 16 blocks and another team-high 16 digs, off some good attempted kills by the Bobcats. The Cougars got a big lift from Ben Thompson off the bench. Thompson had two kills and a block and served the ball well.
Bel Air's match leaders were Khalil Thames, two aces, eight kills, two blocks; Andrew Sunday, three aces, one kill, six blocks, 55 assists; Cameron Pliska, 14 kills, two blocks; Nick Sulzbach, one ace, 12 kills; Evan Thatcher, two aces, two kills; Finn Gottschalk, three kills, three blocks; Collin Kenney, one ace, 12 kills, three blocks; and Will Pinckney, seven kills and one block.
Hawks top Huskies
Patterson Mill and visiting North Harford also needed five sets to settle their match, eventually won by the Hawks, 3-2. Scores were 25-11, 20-25, 17-25, 25-23 and 15-12.
Leading Patterson Mill, Lucas Repke had five aces, a kill, seven assists and three digs. Luke Holloway added two aces, 13 kills, four blocks and two digs. Nicholas Balasus had an ace and five kills, while Ethan Ratliff and Gavin Ward had three kills each.
