Wednesday was a good day for five county boys lacrosse teams, which opened the region playoffs with wins. Fallston, Havre de Grace, North Harford, C. Milton Wright and Bel Air were all winners and will play again Friday.
Fallston's win came at home in Class 1A-2A North, Section I play, where the Cougars (10-4) easily defeated Joppatowne (2-8), 22-3.
Dylan Wolf and Matt Wollenweber led the scoring with three goal each. Ben Claffee and Jack Dennis netted two goals apiece, while single goals were scored by Joe Maranto, Sam Gold, Jake Lippa, Colton Presley, Michael Delvechio, Grant McGuire, Miles Lovett, Jeff Otenesek, Jake Hornbeck, Corey Reed, Curtis Kassir and Zach Labbe.
Thomas Michalik scored twice for Joppatowne and Caleb Murphy scored once.
Presley and Delvechio led the Cougars with two assists each; single assists were credited to Ryan Buckler, Claffee, Gold, Lippa, Justin Williams, McGuire, Andrew Stump, Otenesek, Kassir and Labbe.
Derren Thompson and Joshua Jahn had assists for the Mariners.
Fallston played three goalies. Liam Wilcox and Scott Olin each made one save and Harrison Gold made four. Joppatowne keeper Kris Nelson finished with seven saves.
The Cougars led 18-0 at the half. The Cougars will play at top seed Sparrows Point at 3:45 p.m. Friday.
Warriors beat Huskies
Havre de Grace's win came at home in Class 1A-2A North, Section II play. The Warriors (8-7) beat visiting Patterson Mill (4-10), 16-7.
The Warriors jumped out front with two first quarter goals and never trailed. Trent Reynolds stole the ball and scored less than two minutes in and finished with three goals and an assist.
Kyle Barkley had the other first quarter goal and finished with four goals and three assists.
Colin Dean had four goals and one assist, scoring twice in each of the second and fourth quarters. Dean's second goal, assisted by Barkley, closed the first half and gave the Warriors a 7-3 halftime lead.
Rudy Beck, Blake Tallon and Matt Berger scored goals for the Huskies in the second quarter.
Patterson Mill scored two straight goals (Brendan Bandy and Chance Urban) to open the second half, but the Warriors countered with Barkley's third goal and two from Kyle Cameron with two assists from Barkley.
Patterson Mill also scored three in the third quarter, with Drew Novad doing the honors.
Warriors defenseman Sean Greeley added a pair of goals, the latter on a man-down situation, and Devin Morse added the final goal in the game's final minute. Brice McCown added an assist.
Urban, who led the Huskies with two goals, added his second goal in the fourth quarter, snapping a four-goal Havre de Grace run.
Luke Smith continued to be hot at the face-off spot and dominated play there, controlling most of the draws (15-8). He also had 12 ground balls. Sonny Smith and Robert Surette had four ground balls apiece.
The Warriors close defense (Surette, Jack Eberhardt, Sonny Smith, Evan Hartmann and Greeley) shut down a Huskies attack that had averaged 12.3 goals per game during their three-game winning streak at the end of the regular season.
Havre de Grace goalie Luke Laubner finished with eight saves. Huskies goalie Will DeVinney made nine saves.
The Warriors will play at Harford Tech (8-2) Friday at time to be determined.
Mustangs beat Rams
CMW (10-5) picked up its win in 2A-3A North, Section II play Wednesday. The Mustangs rolled over visiting Edgewood (1-10), 23-1.
Kenny Watts, Riley Moran, Nick Atkinson, Nick Tritto, Kurt Kunkel and Taylor Treadwell scored two goals apiece to lead the Mustangs scoring.
Single goals were scored by Nick Kramer, Dominic Venanzi, Grady DiPeso, Ryan Messer, Steven Cantor, Jared Hansbury, Ryan Grauel, Michael Rayboen, Mitch Weaver, Jake Hofmann and Josh Patterson.
Edgewood's lone goal was scored by Ryan Stiemly.
CMW got two assists apiece from Keith Poyer, Cantor and Grauel. Others with assists were Kramer, Zach Heiderman, Stephen Kelley, Watts, Danny Murphy, Kunkel and Treadwell.
CMW played three goalies. Josh Weaver made one save, Luke Logan made three and Wyatt Graham added two.
The Mustangs led at halftime, 16-0. The Mustangs will host North Harford Friday.
Hawks beat Patapsco
North Harford (8-7) was an easy winner over visiting Patapsco on Wednesday, winning 20-3, in 2A-3A North, Section II play.
Brayden Shue's four goals led the Hawks scoring, while players with two goals each were Stephen Leese, Manny Mastromanolis, Noah Hollingsworth and Chris Hoffman.
Single goals were scored by Connor Diem, Kyle Keating, JT Kidd, Richie Tabeling, David Sexton, Curtis Jackson, Kyle Mansberger and Travis Adkins.
Mastromanolis, Shue, Zach Saneman and Hollingsworth added two assists each. Diem and Tabeling had an assist each.
Hawks goalie David Horoschak made four saves.
Bobcats win, too
Bel Air (9-4) added a win in 3A-4A North, Section I play, dropping visiting Perry Hall, 14-9. The Bobcats led 9-5 at the half.
Justin Calabrese led the Bobcats scoring with three goals, while Dylan Bielatowicz, Chase Oberlin and Luigi Ascenzi netted two goals apiece. Finn Gottschalk, Kasey Davenport, John Santimays, Devin Adams and Jacob Vasquez each scored single goals.
Oberlin, Gottschalk (two), Santimays and Adams also had assists. Bel Air goalie Chris Hagy recorded 10 saves.
The Bobcats will visit top seed Kenwood in the next round on Friday. Game time is to be determined.
Eagles ousted
Aberdeen (4-10) was knocked out of the playoffs on the road, losing 9-7 at Eastern Tech in 2A-3A North, Section II play.
Chris Madera scored three goals to pace the Eagles efforts. Devin Beatty added two goals, while Perry Stokes and George Stiemly had a goal each.
Janari Lee added a pair of assists for the Eagles and Rocko Hillhouse won 15 of 20 face-offs. Aberdeen goalie Luke Whittie finished with 14 saves.
