Nine Harford teams set for boys lacrosse playoffs

The region playoff brackets in boys lacrosse were drawn Monday and nine Harford County teams will be in first round action Wednesday.

In Class 1A-2A North Section I, Fallston will host Joppatowne at 5 p.m.. In Section II, Havre de Grace will host Patterson Mill at 6:30 p.m. and Harford Tech will host the winner on Friday at 7:30 p.m.

In 2A-3A North Section II, Aberdeen will travel to Eastern Tech at 4 p.m. today; North Harford will host Patapsco at 3:45 p.m.; and C. Milton Wright will host Edgewood at 6 p.m.

In 3A-4A South Section I, Bel Air will host Perry Hall at 4:30 p.m. today.

Fallston, Tech win titles

The Fallston Cougars (6-0, 9-4) made it official Friday night, winning the UCBAC Chesapeake Division boys lacrosse title outright, with a 16-3 win over visiting North East.

The Cougars led 8-0 at the half.

Matt Wollenweber scored four goals to pace the Cougars. Ben Claffee, Dylan Wolf and Andrew Stump added three goals apiece and Joe Maranto scored two. Colton Presley added a goal as well.

North East goals were scored by Tanner Moretz, Derek Leonard and Will Smithmyer.

Zach Labbe and Wollenweber each had two assists, while Sam Gold and Cameron Linger had an assist each.

Gunnar Reynolds had a pair of assists for the Indians.

Fallston goalie Liam Wilcox finished with one save and North East keeper Alex Miller made 17 saves.

Tech wins Susquehanna

Harford Tech (7-0, 11-1) wrapped up the Susquehanna Division title and an unbeaten league season with back-to-back wins.

The Cobras broke away from a 4-4 halftime tie with Rising Sun and went on to win, 10-8, on April 27. That win clinched the title.

A week later (May 4), Tech closed out the perfect league record with its 12-3 win over Aberdeen. The Cobras, who were celebrating Senior Night, jumped out to an 1-0 lead.

"We are going through a culture change at Tech," Doug Sharretts, Tech's first year coach, said. "We have a great group of seniors that have bought into the process that emphasizes respect, team and constant improvement. Their hard work has paid off, with the best record in Tech lacrosse history and a number one seed in the playoffs."

Mustangs edged

C. Milton Wright (9-5) visited Glenelg Thursday night and lost, 8-7, in non-league play. The Gladiators' game-winning goal came with 3:44 to play.

Grady DiPeso and Dominic Venanzi scored two goals apiece to lead the Mustangs offense, while Zach Heiderman, Jared Hansbury and Keith Poyer each netted single goals.

Kenny Watts added two assists, while Steven Cantor and Stephen Kelley added single assists.

CMW keeper Josh Weaver finished with five saves.

Huskies win third straight

After struggling to win just one game in its first 10, the Patterson Mill boys lacrosse team won its third straight game Thursday night, beating visiting Catonsville, 15-7, in non-league play.

The Huskies (4-9) led, 8-6, at halftime.

Drew Novad and Rudy Beck led the scoring, each finding the net three times. Matt Berger, Blake Tallon and Chance Urban added two goals each, while Noah Holloway, Brendan Bandy and Connor Madsen had one goal apiece.

Holloway also had three assists with single assists credited to Tallon, Bandy and Berger.

Huskies goalie Will DeVinney made seven saves.
