The North Harford boys basketball team got back in the win column Monday night, knocking off host Harford Christian, 48-46, in non-league play for both schools.
The Hawks (8-10) were up 22-13 at half and built a second half lead to as much as 12. The Hawks missed a lot of free throws down the stretch, but did enough to win a road game, according to Hawks coach Jeff Burrows.
Brett Hurley had 14 points and 10 rebounds for the Hawks, while Zach Stike and Andrew Klapka each had 11 points. Andrew Langan added eight points.
Other Monday scores
In UCBAC Chesapeake Division action, Joppatowne (8-1, 15-2) edged visiting Patterson Mill (4-6, 7-10), 43-40. Jermaine Head, Jr., scored 20 points to pace the Mariners.
In non-league play, Aberdeen (10-9) defeated visiting Eastern Tech, 59-50.
Mustangs, Mariners back on track
Boys basketball teams from C. Milton Wright and Joppatowne, who were both nearly upset in their respective last outings, were back in action and in the winners column a bit more comfortably Friday in UCBAC Chesapeake Division play.
CMW (8-0, 15-1) hosted Edgewood and dealt the Rams (3-6, 8-7) a 74-52 loss.
Corey Bays scored 20 points to pace three CMW players in double figures. Mychal Stefanides added 16 points and Will Hazelton netted 10.
Dante Brown added eight points and nine rebounds. Hazelton finished with nine assists and Stefanides had four steals. The Mustangs led 36-19 at the half.
Edgewood was led by Tyrone McKisset's 15 points and seven rebounds. Immanuel Gladden-Stokes added 14 points. Raekwon Harrison contributed 10 points and Khalil Copes-Jones had eight rebounds.
Mariners hang tight
Joppatowne (7-1, 13-3) picked up its win at Aberdeen (5-5, 9-9), beating the Eagles, 70-56.
Jermaine Head Jr. continued his hot scoring hand, knocking down 22 points. He also had eight rebounds, five steals and five assists. Rashaad Gore added 12 points and nine rebounds and Jeffery Harmon scored 10 points
Warriors beat Indians
Havre de Grace (8-2, 14-3) found itself back in a tie for first place in Susquehanna Division standings with its 74-52 win at North East.
Krs Yancy led the Warriors with 20 points and four steals, while Jordan Hawthorne added 13 points and six assists. Kenneth Sumpter chipped in with 13 points.
Cobras beat Panthers
Harford Tech (8-2, 12-6) created the Susquehanna tie with an 83-67 win over visiting Perryville (8-2, 124). Tech led 37-35 at half. The result created a three-way tie in the division.
Darius Dangerfield had a big night, scoring 26 points and adding seven assists.Fred Gordon added 20 points and seven boards, while Hunter Norcross finished with 19 points and 15 rebounds. Dashawn Lucas scored eight points.
Huskies drop Bobcats
Patterson Mill (4-5, 7-9) rolled over rival Bel Air (4-5, 7-11) in Chesapeake play, 56-38. The Huskies led at half, 26-18.
Patterson Mill was led by Rahmon Felder, who led all scorers with 25 points. Brad Burris netted 11 points and Tyler Jakubowski added eight points.
Kevin Morrissey led the Bobcats with 13 points, while Drew Adams scored eight and JD Bruck added seven.
Hawks beat Elks
North Harford (5-6, 7-10) earned a Susquehanna win, beating host Elkton, 64-51.
The Hawks took a one-point halftime lead and pushed it to as high as 19.
Brett Hurley led the Hawks with 20 points and Andrew Langan had 17. Zach Stike had 12 points and seven rebounds and Andrew Klapka had nine points and eight boards.
HCS is busy
Harford Christian is in a busy stretch, playing three games in three days.
On Saturday, HCS traveled to Frederick Christian for a conference game and won in a rout, 79-17.
HCS had six players in double figures, led by Rashawn Clowney's 16 points. Sean Hughes, Ian Edwards, and Moe Epps each had 12, while Paul Franco and Jared Lanchak both had 11 points. Hughes added 10 rebounds and eight steals and Epps chipped in a triple double with 13 steals and 10 assists in addition to his points. HCS improved to 18-7 overall and 7-0 in the conference.
Despite shooting a season low 27 percent from the field on Friday, Harford Christian came away with a 46-30 win over visiting Rising Sun.
HCS was led by Sean Hughes' 11 points, 10 rebounds and five steals. Moe Epps chipped in with 11 points, eight steals, five assists and four blocks. Paul Franco added 10 points and seven steals. HCS improved to 17-7.
Harford Christian traveled down to Anne Arundel County Thursday to take on metro-area ranked Meade in a non-conference contest and fell, 77-41.
The Eagles kept the game within two points early, until Meade ended the second quarter on a 10-2 run to push the halftime lead to 10 points. In the second half, Harford Christian did not match the energy of the Mustangs and shot a season low 28 percent on the way to the 36-point loss.
HCS, which fell to 16-7, was led by Sean Hughes' 13 points and four assists. Rashawn Clowney added seven points and five rebounds and Moe Epps chipped in with five points, seven assists, five rebounds, three steals and three blocks.
