The Bel Air girls volleyball team (3-0) upset perennial powerhouse and conference champion Rising Sun Thursday night.

It was Rising Sun’s first loss to a Harford County team since 2012.


The Bobcats took the first set, 25-15, before losing the next two sets, 17-25 and 22-25.

The Bobcats, though, stormed back to take the last two sets, (25-15 and 16-14. “It started with great defense, led by senior libero Jay Harden and a great blocking, led by senior right side McKenna Reiswig,” Bobcats coach Dave Simon said. “Both teams served well and played scrappy defense." In the final set, the Bobcats were down 0-5 before clawing their way to the 2-point victory.

Leading the win were Lexi Couch, five aces; Maddie Reagan, 14 kills; McKenna Reiswig, nine kills; Olivia Simon, 32 assists; and Jay Harden 16 assists.

Huskies beat Warriors

Patterson Mill defeated visitiing Havre de Grace, 3-1, Thursday. Scores were 25-18, 26-24, 20-25, 25-17.

The Huskies came out on top with solid performances from all team members, led by senior Katie Keech with 11 kills and six aces. Others contributing were Meadow Santoriello, five aces, 34 assists; and Katerina Lomis, four aces, four assists.

For Havre de Grace, leaders were Phoebe Hein, three kills, nine points, five aces; Kayla Smith, four kills, six points one block; Daphne Hein, one ace, five points; Munah Tukpei, four kills, seven blocks, 13 points; Sam Cubberley, one kill, two blocks, three points; Evie McVay, one kill, two blocks, three points; Rebekah Flower, two kills, one block,four points; and Ava Darling, three aces and seven points.

Cougars top Mustangs

Fallston won at C Milton Wright, 3-0, Thursday. Scores were 25-16, 25-23, 25-17.

Leading the Cougars were Lauren Gabranski, 11 assists, eight digs; Funmi Afolabi, three blocks; Allie Book, two kills, four blocks; Jenna Stewart, 13 digs, one kill, one block; Quinn Hal, eight digs, one block, two aces; Olivia Killough, 11 digs, one ace; Emily Williamson, two digs); and Ellery Thompson, one ace, four kills, one block.

CMW leaders were Brooke Naugle, 15 kills; Libby Gross, 15 assists; and Bridget Walsh, three blocks

HCS wins

Harford Christian School defeated Calvary Baptist Church Academy, 3-0, Thursday. Scores were 25-23, 25-22, 25-14.

After grinding out the first two sets, Harford Christian pulled away in the third to win in straight sets and improve to 2-0 on the season.

HCS leaders were Emily Jeric, seven aces, three kills; Mekenzie Olinger, four aces, six kills; and Hannah Purdy, five aces and three kills

Indians drop Hawks

Visiting North East defeated North Harford, 3-2, Thursday. Scores were 25-16, 12-25, 20-25, 25-15, 15-12.

North Harford was led by Kierstyn McManus, six kills, three blocks, 17 digs, two aces; Kendall Schubert, five kills, three blocks, three aces; and Dani Becker, five kills, two blocks, 22 digs and one ace.


Bo blanks Tech

Bo Manor swept host Harford Tech, 3-0, Thursday. Scores were 25-13, 25-16, 25-22.

Leading the Cobras (0-2) were Victoria Rambo, two aces, one kill, two blocks; and Caitlyn Bobb, two aces and one kill.
