The Patterson Mill girls volleyball team made quick work of Colonel Richardson Monday night in a Class 1A state semifinal match at the University of Maryland’s Ritchie Coliseum.The Huskies (12-5) swept the Colonels (10-9), 3-0, winning by scores of 25-8, 25-14, 25-17. The win puts the Huskies in Saturday’s 1A state championship match, where they will face Smithsburg or Western Tech. Match time is 5 p.m.
The Bel Air girls volleyball team defeated visiting Poly, 3-0, Friday evening in a Class 3A state quarterfinal. Scores were 25-18, 25-23, 25-7. The win sends the Bobcats back to the 3A state semifinals for a second straight year.
On a week where Baltimore Ravens quarterback Lamar Jackson ran circles around the the seemingly impenetrable New England Patriots defense, Joppatowne Mariners senior quarterback Alan Brown put on a similar show against the Patterson Mill Huskies Friday night in a Class 1A East first round game.
Three Harford County girls volleyball teams advanced onto region finals Monday with wins in semifinal play. Patterson Mill, Bel Air and C. Milton Wright were all winners and each will play again Wednesday. Fallston, meanwhile, saw a championship season end.
What was expected by many to be a big game, visiting Elkton turned Friday’s game at Harford Tech into a lopsided victory. The Elks (9-0), who ran for five touchdowns, scored on every quarter, en route to an 52-6 win in UCBAC Chesapeake Division play. Also in the win column Friday, the final week of the regular season, were Patterson Mill, Edgewood, Fallston and C. Milton Wright.
It was just about a year ago, Wyatt Burrows, then a high school junior at Bel Air, was finishing up a varsity football season as a 300-plus pound nose guard.“I didn’t like it” Burrows said recently of that sport and season.
Celebrating its seniors, the Bel Air girls volleyball team won for the 11th time in 12 matches Tuesday night, sweeping Perryville, 3-0, in an UCBAC Chesapeake Division match. Scores were 25-12, 25-20, 25-17.The night belonged to one of five Bel Air seniors, McKenna Reiswig, whose dominant play at the net was unmatched.
The Patterson Mill Huskies football team snapped a two-game losing streak Thursday night, winning at Perryville, which dropped its fourth straight game.The Huskies (4-1 league, 5-2 overall) beat the Panthers (2-3, 3-4), 22-16 in UCBAC Susquehanna Division play.Also Thursday, Aberdeen, Harford Tech, and Fallston were in the win column. John Carroll will play at St Mary’s Friday at 7 p.m.
Havre de Grace senior running back Brandon Rabbit ran for four touchdowns and junior quarterback Devin Coates threw for two and ran for another to lead the Warriors past visiting North Harford, 46-11, in a non-division clash among UCBAC schools. In other non-division action, additional winners were Bel Air, Harford Tech. Edgewood and C. Milton Wright. Joppatowne was also a winner in non-league play.
