Port VFW's ladies auxiliary serves dinner to Perry Point vets

The Cecil County Fair continues tonight (Friday) and will come to a close Saturday. Look for vendors galore and enjoy carnival rides, lots of food, raffles, games, displays, exhibits, contests, tractor pulls, the Demolition Derby and more. A pink-painted vehicle returned this year for "Smash for a Cure," where folks made a donation and then used a ball peen hammer to smash the gaudy pick-up truck. All proceeds of the "Smash for a Cure" will go Union Hospital's Breast Center. The fairgrounds are on Route 273 at Fair Hill.

The Ladies Auxiliary to the VFW Post 8185 served dinner to a group of veterans from Perry Point VA on July 13 at the post home. Ladies Auxiliary President Kathy Heaton and her kitchen crew of Stephanie Gibson, Anne Gibson, Steven Farley, Shirley Eller and Brenda Alexander served up barbecue chicken and fixings while Shirley Mackey led the large group in line dancing.

A team from Water Witch Fire Company competed with fire companies from Perryville, Chesapeake City and Joppa-Magnolia at Perryville Fire Company's first "Muster" on Saturday. Lots of spectators enjoyed the competitions and festive atmosphere while learning what it takes to be a firefighter.

Christina Bradley Paylor, North East, enjoyed birthday greetings on July 18 and Rob Flayhart, former Port Deposit Mayor, celebrated his big day on July 20.

Lauren Eder of Conowingo, Mary Notarcola of Perryville and Tina Ray of Conowingo all enjoyed birthdays on July 21.

Members of the Ladies Auxiliary to the Water Witch Fire Company met on Monday, July 21 at Woodlawn Station for their monthly meeting.

A quarter auction will be held on Sunday, July 27, at the VFW Post 8185, 520 Susquehanna River Road. The doors will open at noon and the auction will begin at 1 p.m. The ticket cost is $10 per person which includes lunch and two paddles. Vendors include Tastefully Simple, Vera Bradley, Tupperware, Thirty-One, Origami Owl, Jewelry by ParkLane and more. All proceeds will benefit the Ladies Auxiliary and, ultimately, our local veterans. Stage Faces Theater Company, Oxford, is sponsoring two summer camps for kids ages 7 to 16. The first one - "Aladdin Camp" - just ended and the next one, "Honk Jr. Camp," is set to run July 28 to Aug. 1. Go to http://www.stagefacestheater.com for more information.

Wayne Hill, chairman of the board of directors of the Bainbridge Museum, is making plans for "Bainbridge Day" on Saturday, Aug. 16. He is working with the U.S. Coast Guard to bring a naval vessel to Port Deposit that day. As more pieces of the puzzle drop into place, more information will be relayed to the public. For now, hold Saturday, Aug. 16 from 1 to 5 p.m. and plan to visit the Bainbridge Museum, 6 S. Main St.
