Port Deposit's Fireman's Carnival opens tonight with fireworks

The Firemen's Carnival on the grounds of the Water Witch Fire Company off Tome Highway at Abrahams Road will open tonight (Friday) at 6 p.m. Plan to enjoy the fireworks at dusk. The carnival will open at 2 p.m. Saturday for a matinee and then will open fully at 6 p.m. for its last night.

According to a press release regarding this year's River Sweep, the event was a huge success. More than 1,000 volunteers participated in the clean-up project on April 26 and 15 yards of trash and debris was removed at Port's Marina Park. Volunteers at the Tome School for Boys site at Bainbridge, including the members of Perryville High School's lacrosse teams, removed five dump truck loads of trash and 34 bags of debris. Thirty bags of trash were collected at the Octoraro Creek area and 100 bags of trash and debris were removed from the Conowingo Creek Boat Launch. Kudos to all the volunteers!

Our Relay for Life Basket and Bag Fundraising Bingo is set for Saturday at Good Shepherd School, 800 Aiken Ave., Perryville. The doors will open at 5:30 p.m. and the games will begin at 7 p.m. The $15 ticket includes paper cards for 20 games. All prizes will be Longaberger or Vera Bradley products. All proceeds will benefit the American Cancer Society. Call Anne, 410-378-3338, for information or reservations.

The Paw Paw Museum, sponsored by the Port Deposit Heritage Corporation, will open for the season on Sunday from 1 to 5 p.m. The museum will be open on the second and fourth Sundays from May through October at 98 N. Main St.

The next chicken barbecue carry-out dinner at the Water Witch Fire Company will be held on Saturday, May 17 at 1 p.m. Stop by Woodlawn Station off Tome Highway and Abrahams Road and pick up your chicken dinner next weekend.

A Basket and Bag Bingo fundraiser will be held on Saturday, May 17 at the Level Volunteer Fire Company, 3633 Level Village Road, Havre de Grace, to benefit the Harford-Cecil Firemen's Association.

Tome's Landing Marina announced the date for this year's Demo Days: Saturday, May 17 and Sunday May 18 from 10 a.m. until 4 p.m. Stop by and check out the new boats.
