An 18-year-old Cecil County woman was injured after the car she was driving slipped on an icy road and crashed into a CSX train, shutting down a Perryville road early Thursday morning, the Cecil County Sheriff's Office reported.
Patti Alexandria Ciara Pucci, of North East, was flown to Maryland Shock Trauma Center in Baltimore after the crash, which was reported just before 7 a.m. at the Jackson Station Road crossing just outside the town of Perryville, Sheriff's Office spokesman Lt. Michael Holmes said.
Pucci was in serious but stable condition as of early Thursday afternoon.
She was driving south in a 2006 Hyundai Sonata when the car hit an icy patch and ultimately the train, Holmes said. The car was pushed about 50 feet off the road by the impact, he said.
"The initial investigation shows she slid down an icy road and struck the front of the train," Holmes said.
Jackson Station Road was expected to be shut down through the rest of the afternoon, he said. Cecil County Fire Blog said it would be closed from Route 40 to Reservoir Road until about 5 p.m. for railroad repairs.
The 26-car train was traveling from Philadelphia to Jacksonville, Fla., CSX spokesman Robert Sullivan said.
