A Forest Hill man accused of killing his infant niece last year has been found incompetent to stand trial.
Colin Christopher Wolf was charged with first- and second-degree murder, among other crimes, in connection with the death of his sister's 2-month-old daughter, Aubree E. Roberts, on April 18, 2013.
Wolf, now 20, was found incompetent after a hearing in Harford County Circuit Court on Nov. 12, Harford County Deputy State's Attorney Diana Brooks said.
"He will be committed to the Department of Health and Mental Hygiene and their goal will be to work towards making him competent to stand trial," Brooks explained.
"Right now the trial is sort of held in limbo," she added, declining to comment further.
The ruling means the Circuit Court found "intellectual limitations on Mr. Wolf's ability to understand" court proceedings, public defender John Janowich said.
He could not comment further on the specific nature of Wolf's limitations or any developmental disabilities.
"That was the first avenue we wanted to pursue. Before the case went to trial, we have to deal with competency to stand trial," Janowich said. "I think the court made the correct decision."
Wolf faced three separate evaluations in determining whether he was competent, Janowich said. Wolf is expected to be transferred to a secure facility where he will get counseling, training or medication, he said.
According to charging documents, Wolf admitted to spraying the baby with deodorant spray and punching her in the face "in a self admitted attempt to kill her."
He had been left alone with the baby for an hour at his home in the 2000 block of Bay Meadows Court, where he lived with his mother and 17-year-old sister, the infant's mother, according to charging documents.
