Harford's Glassman signs union contracts setting $1,000 merit raises

Harford County Executive Barry Glassman has signed union contracts with representatives from AFSCME and the Maryland Classified Employees Association, representing the majority of county employees.

"I was pleased to sign union contracts allowing us to reinvest in our valued county workforce with $1,000 merit increases for qualifying employees next year," Glassman said in a statement. "These increases are fully funded through cost-savings identified by my administration in our budget for the fiscal year 2016."

Union officials in attendance for the signings included from AFSCME, Robert Fletcher, president; Michael Silva, vice president; Charles Bankert, secretary/treasurer; and Ryan Genovese, staff representative; from MCEA, William Sullivan, president; Amanda Weyant, vice president; Michael Hiob, secretary; Ray Crosby, treasurer; and Michael Keeney, staff representative.

The 2016 operating and capital budgets were approved by the Harford County Council on May 26 and signed into law by Glassman the following day.

The new operating budget, which takes effect July 1, funds the $1,000 merit raises for more than 900 employees.
