Sandi Tunney, who has led Harford County's liquor control board since 2013, bid farewell to the group Wednesday.

Tunney oversaw her last liquor board meeting that day, and her fellow commissioners recognized her contributions.

"She has done a remarkable job in this county," Thomas Fidler said as the meeting got started.

Tunney has been a liquor board member since 2006; she took over as chairwoman after Donald Hess stepped down.

Tunney told the board: "It has been an absolute pleasure working with all of you."

Fidler said she "took this on with open arms," adding she saw the board through a change in election cycle and "did a great job."

The roughly 198 licensees the board oversees would concur that she did "a tremendous job" and was always fair, open-minded and supportive, Fidler said.

Inspector Danielle Markette jokingly added the liquor board staff appreciated the doughnuts Tunney regularly provided.

Tunney is being replaced by a former state delegate, Sheryl Davis Kohl, who attended Wednesday's board meeting and is set to be sworn in at 2:30 p.m. April 8.
