Harford sheriff's deputies lead annual Torch Run for Special Olympics

Members of the Harford County Sheriff's Office and other allied law enforcement agencies within Harford County, along with family members, took part in the Annual Maryland Law Enforcement Torch Run for Special Olympics.

Runners began at 7:30 a.m. at the Lock House in Havre de Grace and finished around 1 p.m. on Joppa Farm Road, near the Baltimore County line.

The yearly event was organized by Sheriff's Office Deputy First Class Tom French Jr. and Deputy First Class Matt McGuirk.

According to the Sheriff's Office, French took over the organization of the run in 2012, when he when he decided to carry the family tradition of his father, retired captain Tom French who organized the run from 1994-2003.

Among those along for Wednesday's run were Col. Steven Bodway, chief deputy of the Sheriff's Office, and Major William Davis, Police Services Bureau chief.

The Sheriff's Office said in a statement it is proud to have participated in the Law Enforcement Torch Run for 31 of the 32 years it has been held.
