For the convenience of residential customers, Harford County government announced it is extending operations to three days a week for a period of three months at its Tollgate Yard Trim Drop-off site in Bel Air.In addition to existing Saturday operations, the site at 703 N. Tollgate Road will be open Thursdays and Fridays from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m., starting Aug. 25 and continuing through Nov. 25."Through our partnership with Maryland Environmental Service, I am pleased that we are in a position to offer extended service hours for Harford County residents," County Executive Barry Glassman said in a statement. The county-owned yard waste site and other environmental operations, including the landfill in Street, were outsourced to Maryland Environmental Service a year ago in an effort to reduce costs. MES is a state-sanctioned, self-supporting agency, that provides a myriad of services, including solid waste management and wastewater treatment management. The county recently extended its contract with MES for the 2016-17 fiscal year which began July 1. County officials estimated they saved about $500,000 with the outsourcing arrangement during the prior fiscal year.Commercially collected yard waste is not accepted at the Tollgate site. Commercial and residential yard waste is accepted at the Harford Waste Disposal Center at 3135 Scarboro Road in Street. It operates Monday through Saturday from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m.For more information, contact the Harford Waste Disposal Center at 410-638-3638 or visit www.harfordrecycles.org.
