Three vintage cars stolen within a month in Harford

Harford County Sheriff's Office detectives are trying to determine if there's a connection between the thefts of three vintage cars stolen in the county within a month.

"There is a high dollar after-market value on the parts in these cars. The timing of these three incidents in a row makes it unique, but based on their value, not out of the realm of possibility" they are connected, Cristie Kahler, spokesperson for the Sheriff's Office, wrote in an email Thursday.

The cars were stolen between Dec. 3 and Jan. 6, Kahler said.

A 1967 Plymouth Belvedere was stolen from the 100 block of Waldon Road in Abingdon overnight on Dec. 3, according to the Sheriff's Office. The vehicle was subsequently found in Baltimore County, based on a tip submitted to Harford Crime Stoppers.

A 1971 Chevrolet Monte Carlo was stolen from the 300 block of Fountain Green Road in Bel Air between 9 a.m. and 3:30 p.m. on Dec. 12.

A 1978 Chevrolet Camaro Z28 was stolen from the 1500 block of Belair Road in Fallston between 6 p.m. Jan. 1 and 6:45 p.m. on Jan. 5.

The Monte Carlo and Camaro are have not been found.

The cars ranged in value from $9,000 to $20,000 based on the loss amounts reported by the owners, Kahler wrote.

Detectives believe all three vehicles were towed, not driven away, she said.

Given the recent thefts, Kahler said owners of vintage vehicles should keep them at a storage garage or in a fenced in area to deter thefts, when possible.
