Harford wrestlers out of state title hunt

Of the 24 wrestlers Harford County sent to Saturday's Maryland State Wrestling Tournament, just five will make the return trip Monday to the University of Maryland's Cole Field House and none will be shooting for a state championship.

Of the five, only Patterson Mill's Colin MacDonald will wrestle for third place, doing so at 120-pounds in the Class 1A-2A tournament. MacDonald placed third a year ago 113.

MacDonald, who fell in the quarterfinals, battled back and will face Justin Beckley of Williamsport in the consolation final.

Teammate Jake Nikkila reached the 126 semifinals, but dropped a 6-2 decision to get sent to the consolation bracket. A second 6-2 loss has left the senior with a match for fifth place on Monday.

Harford Tech's Andrey Kalwa will also wrestle for fifth place at 145 pounds. Like MacDonald, Kalwa dropped his quarterfinal bout.

David Reagan was beaten in quarterfinal action at 113, while Cameron Watts was defeated in the first round at 152. Both will wrestle for fifth place.

The consolation matches will start at 4:30 p.m. Monday.
